The Bulls Masters continued their commitment to promote and develop the game of cricket throughout Regional Queensland when they toured Chinchilla in February as part of the Chinchilla Melon-Fest celebrations.
A strong team that included former Queensland greats such as Michael Kasprowicz, Nathan Hauritz, Geoff Foley, Gavin Fitness, Jimmy Maher and Ken Healy was joined by rugby league royalty, Allan Langer and Andrew Gee to take on a local team called the Chinchilla District Watermelons to open the festival weekend on the Thursday.
A massive crowd of more than 3000 people flocked into the Chinchilla Rec grounds to see a tight game. Bulls Masters batted first and never really got going. Gavin Fitness and Nathan Hauritz both scored 30’s to push the Bulls Masters total up to 108.
The Chinchilla batters struggled to deal with the spin of Geoff Foley and Nathan Hauritz and were looking in trouble at 9/79 when the lights mysteriously went out, prematurely ending the game as a draw!
The tour provided another opportunity for the Bulls Masters to get into Regional Queensland town to mentor young cricketers and promote the game through various schools in the Chinchilla region.
