It’s hard to believe that two years have passed since the Bulls Masters great mate and Australian Cricket icon Rod Marsh had his fatal heart-attack in Bundaberg. It was only fitting that Rod’s Australian team-mate and sometimes captain, Greg Chappell was in town to play in the inaugural Rod Marsh Invitational Challenge.
The beautiful Coral Cove Golf Course was in immaculate condition for the corporate golf day that was supported by many of the local businesses including Devcore Property Group, McDonalds, Bundaberg Toyota, Ulton and Takalvans to name a few.
Conditions were ripe for good golf with blue skies and light breezes, although the Pacific Ocean still managed to swallow up a few golf balls on the par three second hole.
After a fun day was had by all and the scored were tallied it was indeed the team of Bundaberg Toyota with Greg Chappell playing in the group that get their name on the Rod Marsh Claret Jug.
An emotional Greg Chappell addressed the crowd at the presentation, telling stories about his great mate Rod and expressing his genuine delight at winning the trophy named in his honour.
The Golf Day is a fundraising event to raise money for the Bundaberg Cricket Association.
