The Bulls Masters do a lot to support the future of cricket especially in Regional Queensland through their tours, clinics, Youth Cup and Country Challenge but they also support the legends of yester-year too.
The 2024 Maroon Cap Day was a reunion organised by the Bulls Masters on day three of the Sheffield Shield fixture between the Bulls and Tasmania.
“It was great to get so many players from different eras, guys recently retired and guys who playes 40 years ago, guys like Martin Kent, Mick Polzin, Geoff Dymock, Mike Lucas who is 80 years old but looks about 60”, Bulls Masters Managing Director, Jimmy Maher explained.
Queensland Bulls opening batsman Matt Renshaw took it upon himself to entertain the old boys by putting on a lone-hand 121 runs. “It was awesome to be there to see (Matt) Renshaw, a modern day great player for Queensland and watch him bat so well”, Maher said.
The legends gathered over in “Champions Corner” down in the Eddie Gilbert End of the ground. The other end of the ground is named after Katherine Raymont, and the Queensland Icon joined the boys to reminisce about the good old days.
Jimmy Maher and the Bulls Masters hope to make the Maroon Cap Day an annual event for any person who’s ever played a game for Queensland, male or female, across any format of the game to get together and catch up.
“It’s important to get together and remember the good times we shared in the Baggy Maroon cap, and the tough times which made the good times even better”, Maker said.
