Teams Named For the Country Challenge in Cairns

September 20 2024

The Central Queensland Seamers head into the 2024 version of the Country Challenge with the target on their back after their unlikely charge to the title last year. After a loss and a tie in their first two pool games last year, the Seamers needed a big win over perennial contenders the North Queensland Monsoons and hope that the South East Queensland Stormers lost to the Scorchers in the final group games and that is exactly what happened.

The rest is history for the Seamers who won their semi-final and then went beserk in the Gabba final to prove that anything is possible if you stay alive and believe.

Far North Fusion have enjoyed hosting the tournament and are almost unbeatable on their home turf, making the Gabba final in dominant fashion since taking over as hosts. They’ll again be one of the favourites. Southern teams the Wide Bay Flames, Darling Downs/SWQ Suns and the SEQ Stormers will be looking to elevate their cricket to get into a Gabba Final. Between them those three Southern Zones have one title since the competition began.
