The Bulls Masters have joined Queensland Cricket in dusting off the old golf clubs to resurrect the corporate golf day at Wynnum Golf Club. No one can quite remember when the last one was run and won but it has been a while.
“These golf days used to be massive back in the day. Everyone had one, cricket, rugby… and they all seem to have died out”, Bulls Masters chairman, Ian Healy said.
Funds raised throughout the day went towards the Queensland Cricket Foundation and the Bulls Masters Regional cricket programs.
28 corporate golf teams joined past and present Queensland Cricket greats in a success return for the golf day. The teams were playing for the “Captains Cup”, named in honour of Queensland Fire captain, Jess Jonassen (representing QLD Cricket) and former Queensland Bulls captain, Jimmy Maher (representing the Bulls Masters).
The event was played as a teams Stableford event and was eventually taken out by the team of Brisbane Construction Services, with Justin Poole, Kristian Poole and Ashley Le Cerf joined by Queensland Cricket all-rounder, Jack Wildermuth.
The cricketers had their own individual competition too, with former Queensland wicket-keeper, Chris Hartley shooting the lights out with a score of 50 to win the Stableford.
After the game all teams assembled back in the clubhouse at Wynnum Golf Club and heard from recently returned Ashes duo of Michael Neser and Jess Jonassen about their experiences over in England.
