Every year the Bulls Masters dedicate a high level coaching camp to our Regional women. After hugely successful women’s cricket clinics in 2022 (Mission Beach) and 2023 (Cairns), the annual Bulls Masters cricket clinic moved down to Rockhampton with elite Bulls Masters coaches heading North to mentor the emerging stars.
Queensland Fire and Bulls assistant coach, Gavin Fitness was joined by former Australian all-rounder Delissa Kimmince and current Queensland Fire wicketkeeper batsman, Caitlin Mair and Queensland Cricket’s local coaches to offer elite level mentoring to the girls over two full days.
“So many of our elite women come from Regional parts of Queensland, including Jess Jonassen (Emerald), Bonnie Berry (Emerald), Lucy Hamilton (Bundaberg), Sianna Ginger (Townsville), even the Harris girls are from Ipswich”, Gavin Fitness said.
Fitness thinks that these Regional Queensland women’s clinics are vitally important for young girls wanting to follow the pathways into the top level of the game.
“The girls meet Caitlin, Delissa or Georgia Prestwidge, whoever the coaches are and see that they’re just regular girls like them who love the game”, Fitness said.
Queensland women are littered all throughout the Australian Cricket franchises, such is the strength of talent coming out of the state. Lily Mills, Mikayla Hinkley, Beth Mooney (Perth Scorchers), Jemma Barsby, Ellie Johnston (Adelaide Strikers), Ruth Johnston (Hobart Hurricanes), Courtney Sippel (Sydney Sixers), Georgia Voll (Sydney Thunder), Josie Dooley, Georgia Prestwidge (Melbourne Renegades) are all Queensland players who’ve had to move to an interstate franchise due to the hot competition for spots in the Fire and Heat.
